The Basketry Collective held its first Open Studio at the end of August. We transformed the ground floor of my house into a gallery for the afternoon and welcomed a steady stream of visitors. It was a great opportunity to catch up with friends and show them the variety of work we produce. People were surprised by just what the term ‘basketry’ covers both in terms of materials and techniques – not just ‘wicker shopping baskets’ but sculptures, baskets made of plastic strapping tape, paper strong and embroidery thread, rush, wool, paper and so on. If you are interested in purchasing any of the baskets, please get in touch.
